Deuces is a song by the American singer Chris Brown . The musicians Kevin McCall and Tyga appear as guest musicians, with McCall also acting as a producer. On June 29, 2010, the title was released as the first single from the joint mixtape of Brown and Tyga, Fan of a Fan . It then reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The song was later reused for Brown's fourth studio album, released in March 2011 .

The song, written by Brown, McCall, and Tyga, was recorded at In Your Ear Studios in Richmond , Virginia . On May 10th, a week before the release of the mixtape Fan of a Fan , the song leaked . The title was reused in 2011 for Brown's fourth studio album, FAME .

The title was released on June 29, 2010 as the first single from the joint mixtape by Tyga and Brown, Fan of a Fan . Since then it has only been available as a download. The song No Bullshit , which later served as the second single on the mixtape, was also included as a B-side in the release. On November 2, 2010 a so-called Digital Remix EP was released, which contained five different remix versions of the single, but not the original version with Tyga and Kevin McCall.

Music video

The song's music video was shot by Colin Tilley , an American music video director. It was released on May 24th, 2010, the same day as the video of the track No Bullshit , another song that can be found on the mixtape. Tilley acted as director on both clips.

The video was shot in black and white, with the graffiti- covered background of the Los Angeles River serving as a backdrop. In the clip you can see Brown dancing alone. Tyga and McCall join in later, the three of them pose together for the camera.

Some reviewers suggested in their reviews that the song might thematically deal with the relationships between Brown and his ex-girlfriend, Rihanna . The USS Today review was of the opinion that with this song Brown was "heading into the next phase". Joanne Dorken, who wrote a rating for British MTV, wrote that the song is "a good platform for Brown to brag about his silky smooth voice." Mesfin Fekadu of ABC News called the track "one of the best songs of 2010" .

In the US, the single entered the charts at position 87, and in the following week it fell to number 96. After seven weeks, the song was in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time (number 39). Three weeks later, in September, he achieved a top 20 position for the first time. In October, after 14 weeks, the song achieved its highest ranking in 14th place, before dropping out of the top 20 again in November. In the United Kingdom, the song rose to 68th place on the charts, which it left after just one week. By January 2011, around 1,000,000 CDs had been sold in the US alone.

Awards and nominations

The song was nominated for a prize at the BET Awards in the "Best Collaboration" category, but lost to the title Look at Me Now , which can also be found on Brown's album FAME . On this song he collaborated with Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne . At the Grammy Awards 2011 the single was nominated in the category "Best Rap / Sung Collaboration", where it lost again. This time you lost to the song Empire State of Mind by the two artists Jay-Z and Alicia Keys .
