Say Goodbye is a song by the American musician Chris Brown . It was released on August 8, 2006 as the fourth single from Brown's debut album , after which it reached number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 . In Germany, it did not enter the charts. The title can also be found on the soundtrack of the film Step Up .

Background and music video

The song was written by Bryan-Michael Cox , Kendrick Dean and Adonis Shropshire , with Cox also serving as the producer. Dean appeared under the pseudonym "WyldCard" as a co-producer. The title was released on August 8, 2006 as the fourth of a total of five singles.

The music video was directed by Jessy Terrero and the clip was first shown on July 26, 2006. The video begins with a few scenes in an environment that is reminiscent of a dance school. Brown's song " Ain't No Way (You Won't Love Me) " is played there. The clip is mostly about Brown's attempts to break up with his girlfriend. However, this is very difficult for him. In the course of the plot he also finds another girl with whom he spends more and more time. In the end, Brown is discovered by his girlfriend while secretly meeting the other person. In different dance scenes you see the three participants dancing together again and again until Brown finally leaves the room with the new girl.

The single was the second after “ Run It! “Which reached number one of the Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs . The song later defended that position for six weeks. On the Billboard Hot 100 , the title rose to 79th place and reached its highest position in November after twelve weeks with tenth place. It was able to defend this in the second week before it then fell back by a few placements. In Germany and the UK, “Say Goodbye” did not enter the charts.
