Yo (Excuse Me Miss) is a song by the American musician Chris Brown . It was released on December 13, 2005 as the second single from his self-named debut album . After its release, the song reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 , and in Germany it was temporarily ranked 56th. The song won a BET Awards in 2006 , and the accompanying music video was also nominated for an MTV Video Music Award as " Best R&B Video " .

background

The song was written by Johnta Austin , Andre Harris , Vidal Davis , with Harris and Davis also serving as producers under the stage name Dre & Vidal . In this form, the two have also been responsible for other songs by Brown, such as " Poppin ' " and " Hold Up ".

Music video

The video was shot jointly by Erik White and Chris Brown. The video begins with a scene in which a girl attracts Brown's attention. He finally follows this person and their friends to a basketball court, on the way he can be seen dancing all the time. Brown and the girl are later seen in a car singing to her when she tries to kiss him. He then gives her his cell phone number before further dance sequences can be seen at the end of the clip. In addition, at the beginning of the song you can hear the melody of Brown's title " Gimme That ", at the end even the first verse of this song is played. The musicians and / or actors Trey Songz , Lil 'JJ and DeRay Davis all have guest appearances in the clip, which also refers to the video for Michael Jackson's piece of music " The Way You Make Me Feel ".

success

reception

Bill Lamb wrote in his review that “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)” is much quieter than its predecessor “ Run It! ", Whereby the song also corresponds to the" classic teen pop ". He also predicted that the single would rank higher in the US pop music charts. Another reviewer said that the title now also shows Brown his qualities as a serious R&B singer that hadn't really been revealed before.
