My Last is the debut single from American rapper Big Sean . It was released on March 1, 2011 as the first single from Sean's debut album Finally Famous , which was released in June of the same year. The Contemporary R & B and hip-hop musician Chris Brown came here as a guest musician in appearance. Upon release, the song reached number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 .
background
The song, which was written by Big Sean, Chris Brown and No ID , samples the title " Can You Stand the Rain " by the band New Edition from 1988. In addition to his work as a songwriter, No ID also acted as a producer of the song. In addition, Big Sean said in an interview that he sang the entire part of the track first, without any guest musicians. Eventually, however, Brown would have shown up at one of his concerts and left Sean his cell phone number. Since Sean himself says that he can't sing as well as Brown, he called Brown later and the two worked together. At the same time, the song " Paper, Scissors, Rock " was created, in which Sean also participated in addition to hip-hop musician Timbaland and which is on Brown's fourth studio album FAME . Brown also made a freestyle rap of the title, which is under the name Last on his fourth mixtape Boy in Detention .
Music video
The music video was shot on March 18, 2011 in West Hollywood , California . The clip was shot by TAJ Stansberry and featured guest appearances by the artists Kid Cudi and Teyana Taylor, and Taz Arnold . It premiered on March 24th at Vevo .
success
reception
The song received mostly positive reviews. The website DJBooth.net particularly praised the lyrics, but also wrote that both producer No ID and guest musician Chris Brown had made a significant contribution to the single.
