Teyana Meshay Jacqueli Shumpert (born Taylor ; born December 10, 1990 in New York ) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, choreographer, director and model.

biography

Teyana Taylor grew up in the Harlem neighborhood of New York . Her family is from Trinidad and has African roots. As a child, she took part in talent competitions. Her musical role models are Brandy , Lauryn Hill , Stevie Wonder , Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson .

In September 2006, Teyana Taylor, then 15 years old, was named as the choreographer of the music video for Beyoncé's single Ring the Alarm . In January 2007 she got a contract with Pharrell Williams ' label Star Trak Entertainment . Her debut single Google Me was released in February 2008 .

In August 2010, Taylor made her first appearance as an actress in the movie Stomp the Yard: Homecoming . In the same year she worked on Kanye West's album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy .

Taylor Star left Trak Entertainment in early 2012 and worked as an independent musician before signing with Kanye West's GOOD Music in mid-2012 . Her debut album VII was released in November 2014 and climbed to number 19 on the Billboard 200 and topped the US R&B charts.

After the second album KTSE (abbreviation for "Keep That Same Energy") from 2018, Taylor's third album The Album was released in June 2020 , on which Erykah Badu , Kehlani , Lauryn Hill , Future , Rick Ross , Quavo and Missy Elliot appeared as guest musicians.
