My World (dt .: My World ) is an extended play of the Canadian pop musician Justin Bieber . It was released on November 17, 2009 in the US and Canada, after which it reached number five on the Billboard 200 . In Germany, the EP was available from January 26, 2010, it was placed in the German album charts at number seven.

composition

The album is largely in the field of pop music , but was also audibly influenced by R&B music. It has also been compared to the music of artists such as Michael Jackson , Usher , Stevie Wonder , Chris Brown and Ne-Yo . Some music magazines divided the album into two parts: the faster R&B / pop songs (“One Time”, “Favorite Girl”, “Bigger” and “Love Me”) and the quieter songs (“First Dance”, “One Less Lonely Girl ”and“ Down to Earth ”). The Entertainment Weekly called these stylistic differences “cute dance pop” and “kitschy crushing ballads”.

promotion

The promotion of the debut single and the EP took place in summer and autumn 2009. Bieber visited many radio stations and gave exclusive appearances there. He was also often interviewed on various television programs and presented an award at the MTV Video Music Awards 2009 . He was also a guest on several US talk shows .

On November 1, 2009, the singer's first tour, comprising five concerts, was supposed to begin. However, since Bieber was previously ill, the first show was postponed to January 2010. The tour was sponsored by Urban Behavior , a Canadian clothing chain.

success

reception

The EP received mostly positive reviews and achieved, for example, a Metascore of 65. This was based on six reviews. In its conclusion, Billboard magazine wrote that “if you judge this delivery of poignant verse, it is hard to imagine that Bieber will deliver even more hits in the next decade.” Andy Kellman of Allmusic partly wrote the success of Bieber to his producers to. The songs that they had worked out for him were not of top quality, but the singer got by more than well with his sparkling clean charm and natural talent. The Boston Globe was of the opinion that "Bieber was indistinguishable from all those thousand pre-made pop candidates with musical inadequacies" that "need to be glossed over in the studio".
