Peter Svensson
Peter Svensson , actually Peter Hofmann , (born June 2, 1964 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera and concert singer ( tenor ).
Life
Peter Svensson was born in Vienna and was already working as an actor in film and television under Wolfgang Glück and Axel Corti at the age of six . He began his singing career as a soprano soloist with the Vienna Boys' Choir and, after graduating from high school, studied at the Vienna Music High School , at the Conservatory and at the Music Academy in Vienna. His teachers included Fritz Uhl , Gerd Nienstedt , James King and Reiner Goldberg . In addition to his studies, which he completed with distinction, he attended a master class with René Kollo in Berlin .
Claudio Abbado discovered the young singer for the Vienna State Opera , where he received his first beginner's contracts between 1989 and 1991 as a student. Peter Svensson's breakthrough came very soon, as Rienzi at the Prague State Opera in 1991 .
Since then, Peter Svensson has appeared on many stages and concert platforms on three continents. Engagements led him u. v. a. to Athens , Madrid , Barcelona , Bilbao , Las Palmas , Geneva , Lucerne , Prague , Brno , Moscow , Warszawa , Wrocław , Paris , Toulouse , Toulon , Rome , to La Scala , Turin , Trieste , Bolzano , Modena , Bologna , Palermo , Catania , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , Dresden , Hamburg , Cologne , Stuttgart , Leipzig , Bonn , Hanover , Helsinki , Copenhagen , Tallinn , Zagreb , Belgrade , to Buenos Aires , Montevideo , Asunción , Mexico City , Osaka , Seoul , Taipei , Tokyo and Beijing . Peter Svensson was a member of the Prague State Opera for 16 years .
After a massive pulmonary embolism in 2007, he found his way back to the stage in 2008 with a successful role debut as Tristan in Tallinn, as well as after an accident in 2009. In 2010 it was Peter Grimes in Las Palmas with whom he returned to the stage was able to continue his career to this day.
Svensson took part in music festivals such as in Ankara , Belgrade , Bergen , Edinburgh , Lucerne , Boswil , Wiener Festwochen , the Tyrolean Festival Erl , the Prague Spring , the Wexford Festival Opera or the Chaliapin Memorial Festival in Kazan .
Peter Svensson gave singing master classes a. a. in Asunción , Athens , Crete , Mexico City , Asunción , Dublin , Helsinki , Sofia , Tallinn , Prague , Seoul and again and again in Vienna .
In 2009 and 2010 he was the artistic director and artistic director of the Gars Summer Academy Festival.
Since 2020 Peter Svensson has been the founder and artistic director of the Weinviertler Festival (Weinviertler-Festspiele.com), the Max Lorenz Singing Competition (Max-Lorenz-Competition.com) and the Vienna Walhall Academy VW in Vienna.
