René Kollo
René Kollo (bourgeois René Viktor Kollodzieyski ) (born November 20, 1937 in Berlin ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ), who is best known for his roles in Wagner operas.

René Kollo comes from a Berlin musician dynasty (grandfather: Walter Kollo , father: Willi Kollo ). His daughter Nathalie Kollo , who has also embarked on a musical career, comes from his marriage, which lasted from 1967 to 1977, to the Danish pop singer Dorthe Kollo . From 1982 to 2006 René Kollo was married to the dancer Béatrice Bouquet, with whom he has three children.

After the war Kollo attended the Carl Hunnius boarding school in Wyk auf Föhr . After graduating from school on Föhr, he attended a photography school in Hamburg . He was interested in music and conducting from an early age. However, he didn't start making music himself until the mid-1950s. As an autodidact , Kollo played drums , double bass and guitar . He performed in the then common jazz cellars . In Berlin he also took acting lessons from Else Bongers . In order to train his voice for musical roles, he took voice pedagogy lessons from the opera singer Elsa Varena . Kollo wanted to be an actor, but came to singing during his training in the 1950s and initially became a pop singer . He became known through the Polydor record company with the German version of Hello Mary Lou (Original: Ricky Nelson ). With this label he achieved another respectable success in 1961 with In the end it will be love . He sang both hits in 1961 in the film So loves and kisses in Tyrol , in which he also played a small supporting role as a bartender.
In 1962 he sang the single Das A und O / Du Casanova, du with Monika Grimm . René Kollo took fourth place at the German Schlager Festival in 1963 with the song My great love lives in a small town . In 1964 and 1965 , the singer took part in the German preliminary rounds for the Eurovision Song Contest with the songs How Gone with the Wind and All the luck in this world .
Kollo began his career as an opera singer in 1965 at the Braunschweig State Theater under the direction of Hellmuth Matiasek . From 1967 to 1971 he was first tenor at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf-Duisburg and sang leading roles in operas by Mozart , Verdi , Puccini and Janáček . In 1975 he sang the song of the ARD television lottery Das sehr große Glück . In 1986 he directed Parsifal in Darmstadt. In addition, Kollo remained loyal to the light muse. In 1986 he recorded an album with songs by Udo Jürgens : Music was my first love .
From 1996 he worked as artistic director of the Metropol-Theater (Berlin-Mitte) . In 1997, however, the theater was so indebted that it had to be closed. Since then, Kollo, the employees and the Senate have argued over who was responsible for the bankruptcy.
As an opera singer, René Kollo has guested at all the major opera houses in the world, sang at the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals and regularly at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich . After years of success as a hero tenor, especially in the Wagner subject and numerous recordings, he withdrew from the first tenor subject in 2000 and has since performed in the senior roles of the character subject.
In addition to numerous recordings from the field of operetta and opera with famous conductors, he also released a CD with songs and arias in collaboration with James Last . In 1989 they gave two concerts together in the Dresden Semperoper .
On June 22, 2016 Kollo premiered at the Renaissance Theater (Berlin) with the piece Quartetto by Ronald Harwood . The play is about four former opera stars in a senior citizens' residence. In this Berlin performance, four "real" opera singers played instead of normal actors for the first time.
Kollo is the patron of the musical Ludwig² in Füssen and took on the role of shadow man for 4 performances in the summer of 2016.
Because tax of 80,000 euros Kollo was sentenced in 2012 to 15 months probation.
Activity as an author
Kollo's hobby is dealing with history. He not only recorded his own life story, but also wrote a book on German history in 2010. Kollo has made a name for himself, especially as the author of crime novels in the artistic environment ( Die Morde des kleine Tannhäuser ). In 2012 a short thriller was published that takes place at the theater in Hagen.
