Monika Grimm (born May 18, 1940 in Schönfels near Zwickau ) is a German pop singer and film actress .

Life and artistic work

Her career began in the GDR at the end of 1950 . She was a member of the women's quartet Die Kolibris , which was primarily used for background tasks. Together with Ruth Brandin she recorded the extremely successful hit Das Lied vom alten Recordenschrank for the GDR label AMIGA . Since Monika Grimm fled the GDR soon after the record was released, Petra Böttcher or Arite Mann had the song performed as a substitute for television appearances . She also released a few singles as a solo performer. B: My brother and me . She also appeared in a number of DFF films. a. in the TV comedy Papa's New Girlfriend , with Angelica Domröse in the lead role.

After Monika Grimm left for the FRG in 1961 , she tried a musical restart there. Polydor signed her and released her first record Jacky Boy / Always There Is A Reunion in 1962 . The artist also became a member of the first German girls' band Tahiti-Tamourés , which recorded a total of four records between 1963 and 1964. In addition, she sang several singles with René Kollo (including as Duo Marina) such as Das A und O and All young people dream about it (an advertising single for the Kaufhaus des Westens ). Another male duet partner of hers was Will Brandes , with whom the singer recorded the song A good star .

In 1964 she belonged together with Peggy Peters (also Tina Rainford ) and Charlotte Marian to the girls group Die Sweetles , whose recording I wish me a Beatle for my birthday was granted a moderate success (number 38 in the German single charts).

The singer also tried to start a solo career. But the real breakthrough did not quite succeed. Even with the folk song High on the Yellow Carriage , she only achieved a respectable success. With the contribution Who takes me in his arms , Monika Grimm could not qualify for the finals of the German Schlager Festival in 1966 . The artist has worked in a number of films: Murder Night in Manhattan (1965), The trap snaps shut at midnight (1966) and Good evening. Sounds, Bars and Theater (1967). She was also a guest on television shows such as Zwischenmahlzeit , Our Little Show, Party Stories and Per Adresse Peter Igelhoff. At the end of the 1960s, it became quiet around them.

Monika Grimm was married to the music producer Klaus Netzle in her first marriage. In 1986 she married Heinz Kiessling .
