from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tina Rainford (* 25. December 1946 in Berlin as Christa Zalewski ) is a German singer. She called herself u. a. also Peggy Peters .

Life

Tina Rainford sang in front of American soldiers in Berlin at the age of five. The father promoted the daughter's talent and made it possible for her to take ballet lessons . After school, she first worked as a hostess for an airline.

With her childhood friend Drafi Deutscher , she won a talent competition in 1962 on the occasion of the radio exhibition in Berlin. Then she got a record deal from Heino Gaze . Under the pseudonym Peggy Peters , the first records were released by Ariola in 1964 : No more school / forever and always and Java Java Boy / Danny Boy . This and the next releases were not very successful. At that time she met her future husband Peter Rainford and founded the trio PTN (Pete, Tina, Norman) with him and Norman Ascot , which released a few singles, but they were also not successful.

In 1964, together with Charlotte Marian and Monika Grimm (both Tahiti Tamourés ) under the band name “Die Sweetles” with the single I wish me a Beatle for my birthday, she reached number 38 in the German single charts.

In 1972 Tina Rainford recorded a single in a duet with Drafi Deutscher. They called themselves Tina and Drafi. The single ALASKA was listed in the top field in many radio hit parades. At that time, Drafi Deutscher was already writing and producing a number of singles for and with Tina Rainford, such as A six year old whiskey or I want you .

In the mid-1970s she met Drafi Deutscher again, who rediscovered her as a singer and with her in 1976 produced the song Silverbird , which Tina Rainford recorded in English and German. The title became their greatest success, sold millions of copies and even reached number 25 on the American country charts. Another English single, Big Silver Angel , reached number 91. Then she was a guest in the USA and sang with the local stars of the scene. The German recording also brought it into the ZDF hit parade , where it took second place twice in a row. The successor single Charly Boy was also successful in the German single charts. Other singles like Fly Away Pretty Flamingo or My Mexico could no longer hold their own in the charts. Many of Rainford's recordings exist in addition to the English and German versions. B. Mein Mexico (My Mexico) , Charly Boy , König Midas (Majana Island) and Danny (I'm Danny's Girlfriend) .

After the success did not materialize, Rainford withdrew largely into private life after 1980 and only resigned from 1989. In 2001 another album was released after many years . In 2003/2004 she appeared as a guest star at the Madame Lothár Theater in Bremen .

In 2007 the promo single The Last Mile , which Tina Rainford sings in a duet with her mentor Drafi Deutscher, was released as a release from his last album, also titled The Last Mile .

On November 18, 2014, Rainford spoke openly on the ARD talk show Menschen bei Maischberger about decades of drug and alcohol addiction that she has since overcome. She had already reported about this difficult time in an interview with the taz in 2004 and mentioned there that she had suffered from bulimia for a long time. She processed her story in the autobiography When Stars Fall , published that same year , which she had written with Jürgen Westphal .

Rainford now lives with her second husband, the painter Ralph Hedley, on the Balearic island of Mallorca . Among other things, she is involved in the therapy of alcoholics.
