Adolf Dallapozza
Adolf Dallapozza (born March 14, 1940 in Bozen ) is an Austrian opera , operetta and musical singer ( tenor ). He has worked at the Vienna Volksoper for over 50 years .
Life
Adolf Dallapozza comes from South Tyrol . He was the ninth and youngest child of an art and sign painter. Immediately after his birth, the family emigrated to Austria and eventually came to Vienna via detours. He first completed a commercial apprenticeship and worked in a book and music store. He also took singing lessons, among others with Ida Valjalo in Vienna . During his studies he sang in the choir of the Vienna Volksoper.
In 1962 he made his debut at this house as a soloist in the role of Ernesto in Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti . In the German-language premiere of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story in 1968, he sang the role of Tony under the direction of Marcel Prawy with Julia Migenes as a partner. Also in 1968 he was committed to the Vienna State Opera . There he sang mainly the role of buffalo tenor and play tenor , but was also used as a lyric tenor . He also appeared regularly at the Vienna Volksoper, which remained his actual parent company throughout his career. From 1978 until his official retirement, Dallapozza was a permanent member of the Volksoper ensemble without interruption. In 1984 he was made an honorary member .
repertoire
At the Vienna Volksoper he sang almost all classical tenor roles in the operettas by Carl Millöcker , Johann Strauss , Franz Lehár and Emmerich Kálmán . He also took on major operatic roles there. In 1984 he sang Rodolfo in La Bohème in a production by Harry Kupfer , in 1977 Wilhelm Meister in Mignon by Ambroise Thomas and in 1990 Lenski in Eugen Onegin . Dallapozza later also took on roles in the character field and won the audience's hearts with the role of the crispy witch in Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck .
In September 2008 Dallapozza celebrated his 50th stage anniversary with the role of Gabriel von Eisenstein in the operetta Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss. As a guest, Dallapozza remained connected to the Volksoper. In the 2011/2012 season he sang there - as in previous seasons - the Knusperhexe in Hansel and Gretel .
honors and awards
In 1976 Adolf Dallapozza was awarded the title Kammersänger by the Austrian Federal President . In 1985 he received the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class and in 1998 the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
