Füssen 2016

On 22 September 2015 it was announced that the musical in the summer of 2016 for 29 performances Ludwig² again comes back to the original location to the Festspielhaus feet if by crowdfunding on the platform startnext a total of 75,000 € on ticket sales in the period from 1 October to November 30, 2015 to be pre-financed.

Benjamin Sahler will direct the new production. On October 22nd, 2015, 2 main roles were announced: Matthias Stockinger will again (as in 2011 in Kempten) play Ludwig II. Anna Hofbauer will take on the role of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

Crowdfunding reached the target of € 75,000 on November 19, 2015, before the deadline (November 30, 2015). Thus the project was pre-financed.

The musical was shown in Füssen with a total of 29 performances from August 11th (premiere) to September 4th, 2016 (dererniere).

A total of € 165,947 was raised in crowdfunding. This makes the project the most successful crowdfunding in European music and theater history.

On April 7, 2016, the complete line-up was presented. Uwe Kröger takes on the role of Dr. Gudden. Kevin Tarte plays the shadow man. Also Oedo Kuipers (Professor Durckheim) Dorothea Baumann (Princess Sophie), Harald Tauber (Graf Rettenberg), Julian Wejwar (Prince Otto), Marina Krauser (Ludovica) and Pablo Bottinelli (inventor / Count Holnstein) belong to the cast. As in the world premiere in 2005 and in Kempten in 2011, Suzan Drawer (Sybille Meilhaus), William Cohn (Kaspar), Alexander Kerbst (Lutz) and Stefanie Kock (Marie) are on stage. The other cast included Sven Fliege ( cover Prinz Otto, cover Graf Dürckheim, cover Schattenmann), Oliver Frischknecht (cover Kaspar / Graf Holstein / Schattenmann) Kevin Arand (cover Graf Dürckheim / cover Ludwig), Monika Maria Staszak (cover Sybille Meilhaus) and Dalma Viczina (Cover Sophie).

On April 19, 2016, the new patron of the summer production, the opera tenor René Kollo, was presented. The Wagner tenor Kollo also took on the role of the shadow man for four performances. The Ludwig² Opening on April 26, 2016 gave a little insight into the new production. Selected songs (including Kalte Sterne, Rosen ohne Dornen and Mein Ritter) were sung by the new cast and some details about the staging were explained by the director Sahler. Over 800 visitors came to see the opening in Füssen. The 29 performances by Ludwig² in summer 2016 were a great success. The piece had a utilization of 75%.

Fussen 2017

In 2017, 21 shows and one additional show were held from 3 to 28 August played. On April 1st, 2017 the festival hall Füssen reopened, with Jan Ammann as Ludwig II. The other cast included Anna Hofbauer (Sissi), Alexander Kerbst (Dr. Gudden), Stefanie Kock (Marie), Julian Wejwar (Otto), Harald Tauber (Count Rettenberg) and William Cohn (Kaspar).

Production had a capacity utilization of 75% in 2017, for this reason, according to Festspielhaus Füssen, a Ludwig² season will be aimed for in the summer for the next 10 years.

first act

On the last walk on June 13, 1886, Ludwig II and his psychiatrist Gudden look back on his past life on the shores of Lake Starnberg ( Beloved Mountains / Maikäfer Flieg ).

Flashback:

Ludwig grows up in a joyless and loveless home ( family row again ). While his private tutor tyrannizes him ( what was the name of the Romans? ), He takes refuge in the arms of his nanny Sybille Meilhaus, who familiarizes him with the world of Richard Wagner . He is particularly attracted to Lohengrin and wants to emulate his hero. ( My knight )

His father dies at the age of 18 and Ludwig surprisingly becomes king. As King Ludwig II, he wants to make his beloved Bavaria a “temple of peace and the fine arts”, but not everyone agrees. Only his beloved cousin, Empress Elisabeth of Austria , and his loyal adjutant Count Dürckheim are at his side. He is engaged to Elisabeth's sister Sophie ( O God O God ) but later dissolves the engagement ( Die Welt ).

He meets Elisabeth with Elisabeth on the rose island ( Rosenkavaliere ) and dreams of a life far away from court in great freedom ( born in palaces ).

Because the love for Elisabeth fails, he falls into great sadness ( the eye is wet ), from which only the "angel" can free him. He explains to him that his path is not over yet, since he still has to find the holy grail, and that grief is not helpful ( My Angel ).

Second act

Since Prussia declares war on France, Ludwig has to make a decision and reluctantly he has to help with weapons ( it is not fashionable at court ).

During this war, his brother Otto fell into depression after being buried and rescued by the king's adjutant. Ludwig visits his brother in the psychiatry.

Otto is completely addicted to a war neurosis ( The night is marching ) and recognizes his brother only with difficulty ( So cold my heart ).

Ludwig falls into mourning again, and here too the “angel” admonishes him to go his way in order to fulfill his mission. Ludwig decides that there should never be war again. He would rather create than destroy ( cold stars ).

Meanwhile, Gudden is put under pressure by the resistance ( something must happen! ) And declares the king to be crazy, but soon doubts the signed report ( should that be the king? ).

Meanwhile, Ludwig is more and more enthusiastic about technical progress and lets himself imagine the telephone as well as an artificial rainbow ( König Technik ). Elisabeth arrives surprisingly from Venice and announces to Ludwig the surprising death of the composer and friend Richard Wagner ( oh so short life ).

Meanwhile, the construction of Neuschwanstein Castle begins. Ludwig is proud to finally realize his dream and Count Dürckheim swears eternal loyalty ( friendship ) to his king .

On the construction site of Neuschwanstein Castle, Ludwig is declared insane and thus incapable of government by a catching commission and taken prisoner to Berg Castle. Dürckheim wants to rush to his aid, but Ludwig II explains to him that enough blood has flowed and allows himself to be led away. The shadow man ( black shadow ) emerges from the dark .

On the final walk again, the king turns to the audience and declares that everyone has the holy grail in them. It tells the story of a man who gives up everything to lead his child out of blindness: this is the holy grail. Shots are fired.

Sisi, Sybille, Count Dürckheim and the Bavarian people gather at Lake Starnberg and swear their eternal loyalty to Ludwig. You complete Ludwig's vision and complete Neuschwanstein Castle ( final ).
