Jan Ammann

Jan Ammann (born August 25, 1975 in Billerbeck ) is a German singer ( baritone ) and musical performer .

Life

Ammann took singing lessons while still at school and won prizes at Jugend musiziert . He then completed classical vocal training. He mainly learned from Douglas Yates, Houston , with whom he worked for a number of years, and received scholarships at Rice University in Houston, Texas .

Numerous master classes followed later, including with Neil Semer in New York and Norman Shetler at the Mozarteum Salzburg , as well as a few semesters at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . During his studies he was hired for the title role in the musical Ludwig II - Longing for Paradise . He previously appeared as Tony in West Side Story on the Coesfeld open-air stage . Two more years of training followed in the USA . There he completed further acting courses at the North Hollywood Acting Center (NOHO) in Los Angeles . He then attended Pepperdine University in Malibu .

After returning to Germany , he appeared in Füssen in March 2005 as Ludwig in the world premiere of a new musical about the fairy tale king. After the end of the term in January 2007, he was seen in the German premiere of the Catalan musical Mar i Cel at the Halle Opera House as pirate captain Said . At the same time, in the summer of 2007 he took on the male title role in Beauty and the Beast in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin for a few months . In summer 2008 he was awarded the audience award at the renowned Bad Hersfeld Festival for his title role in the musical Jekyll & Hyde .

From November 2008 to January 2010 Ammann played the leading role of Count von Krolock in Dance of the Vampires in Oberhausen . From February 2010 he took over this role again in Stuttgart, which he played in the first cast until October 16, 2011 - the end of the Stuttgart production. In May 2012 Jan Ammann, also in Stuttgart, took on the male lead in the musical Rebecca . Here he was seen in the role of Maxim de Winter until January 2013 . In July 2014, Ammann took on the role of Kerchak in the Stuttgart musical Tarzan .

On October 30, 2010, Ammann released his first solo CD entitled Musical .

Together with Christian Alexander Müller , Mark Seibert and Patrick Stanke , Ammann has been one of the founding members of the Musical Tenors since 2010 . In 2011 he presented some of his work as a photo artist to the public in the Stuttgart City Hall.

From October 2011 to March 2012, Ammann went on a tour of Germany with his first solo program Stage Fright . The program included musical titles, pop songs and chansons. A live double CD published at the end of 2012 documents the program.

In autumn 2012 Ammann was seen in the Sat.1 TV series The Cop and the Snob in the episode "The Flauchermädchen" as the opera singer Moritz von Redloff . In 2012 he took on the role of Maxim de Winter again in the musical Rebecca in the Stuttgart Palladium Theater .

In the summer of 2013 he played the main role of Gaylord Ravenal in the musical Showboat at the Bad Hersfeld Festival . From November 2013 to February 2014 Jan Ammann was on stage as King Marchand in the musical Victor / Victoria in the Alten Schauspielhaus in Stuttgart . From July 1, 2014, he played the role of Kerchak in the Disney musical Tarzan at the Stage Apollo Theater Stuttgart . In 2014 his solo CD Farbenblind was also released. He then toured Germany with the live program of the same name - a resumption tour took place in spring 2015.

As part of the new concert project The Milestones Project , Jan Ammann gave seven concerts in Oberhausen, Berlin, Stuttgart and Vienna in May 2015 alongside Andreas Bieber , Mark Seibert and Volkan Baydar .

In summer 2017 he returned to the Festspielhaus in Füssen for nine appearances to play the title role in the musical Ludwig II . At the same time he was back on stage as Maxim de Winter in Rebecca at the Freilichtspiele Tecklenburg in the summer of 2017 .

After another stopover as Count von Krolock in Hamburg (Theater an der Elbe, until November 30, 2017), Jan Ammann moved to Leipzig to attend the Musical Comedy of the Leipzig Opera . The German premiere of Doctor Schiwago was staged there under director Cusch Jung . Ammann took on the title role of Doctor Jurij Schiwago . The premiere took place on January 27, 2018. This was followed by performances in Leipzig and as a guest performance in Friedrichshafen until December 2018.

From March 2018 he took on the role of Margrave Gerold in the musical Die Päpstin at various venues (Stuttgart, Füssen, Neunkirchen) , staged by Benjamin Sahler (Big Dimension).

In summer 2018 he again played the role of King Ludwig in Ludwig² in Füssen and in October 2018 he slipped into the role of Wotan in the rock musical Der Ring by Frank Nimsgern.

The Musical Tenors also experienced a comeback in 2018 , and numerous concerts were given in Berlin, Oberhausen, Vienna, Hamburg and Filderstadt until January 2019. Jan Ammann's new concert series, A Musical Love Story , premiered in Berlin in January 2019.

In the summer of 2019 he also took on the title role in the Doktor Schiwago production of the Freilichtspiele Tecklenburg directed by Ulrich Wiggers . For this he was named "Best Actor in a Musical" at the BroadwayWorld Awards 2019 (Germany) .

In July 2011 Ammann took over the 12-month patronage for the association Neuewege eV , which faces the challenges of juvenile delinquency. He has a sponsorship for several children at World Vision and repeatedly collects donations for the entire project.
