Step in
As a stand-in , cover occupation , or short cover (. English for 'cover) is an actor , musical - or opera singer called that for diseased or prevented people an already existing production step in. As a rule, they are instructed in all necessary processes and tasks by the assistant director .
There are three different types of jumpers:
- The standby actor in the theater knows the role and is waiting to be deployed.
- In contrast to this, the cover is obliged to cooperate at short notice. This works particularly well in classical opera, where many artists have a similar education and can cover the necessary roles .
- The swing , however, is already in the performances constantly on stage and has from the outset multiple roles rehearsed (in English understudy ), to apply for illness or vacation absences roles other than his own. This is particularly common in musicals, where the risk of injury is high and a substitute has to master melody, choreography and text at the same time.
