Fritz Uhl
Fritz Uhl (born April 2, 1928 in Vienna ; † May 21, 2001 in Munich ) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ).
Life
Uhl was born in the Matzleinsdorf district of Vienna's 5th district, Margareten . In 1947 he graduated from high school with his school colleagues Eberhard Waechter and Waldemar Kmentt . He then studied with Elisabeth Radó in Vienna and traveled to the Netherlands as a student with an operetta troupe. In 1952 he made his debut in the title role of Gounod's Faust at the Stadttheater Leoben . Then he sang from 1952 to 1953 in Graz , from 1953 to 1954 in Lucerne , from 1954 to 1956 in Oberhausen and from 1956 to 1958 in Wuppertal , where he began to sing hero tenor roles. From 1956 Uhl was a member of the Munich State Opera and had guest contracts at the Vienna State Opera and the Stuttgart State Opera .
At the Bayreuth Festival he sang Kunz Vogelsang in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg from 1957-58 , Melot in Tristan und Isolde from 1957-59 , Loge in Das Rheingold in 1958 , Siegmund in Die Walküre from 1961-64 , and Erik in 1959-61 The flying Dutchman and in 1958 the young sailor in Tristan and Isolde and the 1st Grail Sitter in Parsifal .
In 1958, Fritz Uhl sang at the Salzburg Festival in the Florestan in Fidelio and took over 1971-72 the role of drum major in Alban Berg's Wozzeck .
The tenor performed a. a. in Nice , Strasbourg , Lyon and Toulouse , at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires , at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels , in Paris , Stockholm , Amsterdam , Mexico City , Barcelona , Lisbon , Zagreb and in San Francisco .
In 1962 Uhl sang Walther von Stolzing in Wagner's Mastersingers in London , and in the same year he took over the role of Herod in the Japanese premiere of Richard Strauss ' opera Salome in Osaka . In 1976 he sang the world premiere of the opera Der Aufstand by Helmut Eder at the Landestheater von Linz , in the same year he took part in the world premiere of the opera Die Temptung von Josef Tal at the Munich State Opera, where he played the Count's Pfeifer in Paul Hindemith's opera in 1989 Mathis the painter . He also took part in the world premieres of Ján Cikker's Das Spiel von Liebe und Tod in 1969, and in Heinrich Sutermeister's opera Le roi Béranger in 1985, both of which took place in Munich.
From 1981 Fritz Uhl was a professor at the Vienna Conservatory .
