Helmut Eder

Helmut Eder (born December 26, 1916 in Linz , † February 8, 2005 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian composer .

Life

Eder studied with Carl Orff , among others, and was influenced by Alban Berg , Johann Nepomuk David and György Ligeti . He composed more than 130 works, ranging from chamber music to sacred music to opera . They were performed by the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of prominent conductors, including Seiji Ozawa and Wolfgang Sawallisch . Eder's opera Mozart was premiered in New York at the Salzburg Festival in 1991 . Helmut Eder was awarded theState Prize for Music (1962) and the Anton Bruckner Prize . After his death he was buried in the Salzburg municipal cemetery.
