Saaler Mühle is a district in the Kippekausen district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The name Saaler Mühle goes back to the medieval grain mill that stood here until the 1980s. It was recorded in the original cadastre east of Auf'm Keppinghausen (= Kippekausen). It was abandoned as a flour mill in the early modern period . In the 18th century it was put back into operation as an oil mill . At the beginning of the 20th century it was completely decommissioned as a mill and has been a popular destination since the 1920s.

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Porz , proves that the residential area was categorized as Freihof in 1715 and was named Sahl .

Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as a hall . It shows that at that time, Saal was part of the Refrath honor in the parish of Bensberg .

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813, the Porz office was dissolved and Saal was politically assigned to Mairie Bensberg in the canton of Bensberg . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district .

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and on the Prussian first survey from 1840 as Saaler Mühle . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, it is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Saal , Saaler Mühle or without a name.

Due to the Cologne Act , the city of Bensberg was merged with Bergisch Gladbach to form the city of Bergisch Gladbach with effect from January 1, 1975. Saaler Mühle also became part of Bergisch Gladbach.

Today's development

The site has changed a lot since the 1960s. Various structures were built here one after the other, to which the old Saaler Mühle building finally fell victim. The following facilities were built here by the town of Bensberg, which was independent until 1974, and then by the newly created city of Bergisch Gladbach:

  • The Otto Hahn Secondary School Bensberg,
  • the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium Bensberg ,
  • 1969 an indoor pool, later expanded by an outdoor pool with a wave pool,
  • The sauna, wellness and thermal bath center Mediterana emerged from the indoor and wave pool in the 1990s ;
