Kippekausen is a district of Bergisch Gladbach and belongs to the statistical district 6 of the city under No. 63.

history

The name of the district Kippekausen refers to a high medieval castle complex - the Motte Kippekausen - which was built around the year 1000. The castle was no longer inhabited from the beginning of the 15th century, after the knightly owner family had probably died out. From then on the fortifications were in a ruinous state and economically insignificant. In later years the von Merheim family built a new farm here, which was called Gut Kippekausen in the future. In 1843 Johann Anton Lautz (born December 16, 1789 in Saarbrücken, † March 21, 1881 in Cologne) acquired the estate, and his son Heinrich later acquired the rest of the old manor Saal .

It existed until the second half of the 20th century and was torn down in 1965 due to the construction of the Kippekausen park settlement .

The district was created by the municipal reorganization in 1975. Before that, Kippekausen formed the old Bensberg district Refrath together with Refrath , Alt Refrath and Lustheide .

Kippekausen also includes the area around the Saaler Mühlenteich with the ice rink and the Mediterana wellness center , a thermal bath and sauna facility. The pond is the relic of the former open-cast lignite mine of the Consolidation Alfred mine . Traces of this mining activity can also be found in the adjacent forest towards Frankenforst .
