Bärbroich is a district of Bergisch Gladbach and belongs to the statistics district 4 of the city under No. 43.

history

In the original cadastre there is only one road "from Herkenrath to Broich" . The place Bärbroich is not listed in Urkataster. It probably came into being in the second half of the 19th century and was formed from the hamlets of Dresherscheid, Ottoherscheid, Wüstenherscheid, Oberselbach and Kotzfeld. Several mines had been in operation in the area around Bärbroich since the middle of the 19th century.

Although Bärbroich belonged to the parish association of the parish Herkenrath , the district had its first church as early as 1925/26. A church building association founded in 1910 supported the church building project financially and organizationally. For the construction of the church, some of the building material obtained free of charge from the disused Berzelius mine and the Weiß mine from the neighboring Bensberg ore district was used . In 1967, considerable construction defects led to the demolition of this church.

The successor building, the Catholic Church of St. Maria s. t. Immaculata Conceptionis , is a branch church of the Bergisch Gladbach parish of St. Josef and St. Antonius. It was built from 1969 to 1970 according to plans by the Cologne architect Ernst Isenlar. The windows were designed by the glass artist Hans Lünenborg . On April 12, 2008, the organ was consecrated again during the evening mass after renovation and extensive expansion.
