Oberselbach is a district in the Bärbroich district on the eastern border of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The Oberselbach settlement was mentioned in a document as early as 1392 as "Seylbach" . In the original cadastre it is recorded as Ober-Selbach east of Wüstenherscheid . Etymologically , the Indo-European “Sel” stands for swamp and means a topographical location in a landscape rich in water and swamp.
In the list of the Kingdom of Prussia for the 1885 census, Oberselbach, at that time still under the name Ober Selbach , was listed as the residential area of the rural community of Bensberg in the Mülheim am Rhein district . At that time, 5 houses with 20 residents were counted.
Around 1970 35 people lived here, including 10 children. In April 2017 there were only 14 residents, including no children. The village consists of eight houses. One of them is uninhabited.
