Broich is a district in the Bärbroich district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The Broich settlement emerged from a medieval farm . In the first documentary mention it is called "Broyke" . The word Broch is in the original register . When it was founded in the early modern period , the Hofgut belonged to the fiefdom of the Herkenrath Fronhof . As a result, the "guiter zoim Broich" were already mentioned in the church pew of 1630.
According to the survey of the government district of Cöln , the place categorized as a "farm" had two houses in 1845. At that time there were nine people living in the village, all of them Catholic. In 1905 there were nine residential buildings with 58 residents. Etymologically , Broich corresponds to the Old High German word “bruoh” and the Middle High German “bruoch” (= moorland, swamp). It was originally a swampy meadow or a thicket of bushes by the water.
