Johannes Geel

Johannes Geel (born July 13, 1854 in Sargans , † January 24, 1937 in St. Gallen , resident in Sargans) was a Swiss judge and politician ( FDP ).

biography

Geel studied law at the universities of Munich , Paris and Strasbourg . He became a lawyer and worked from 1881 to 1890 as a district court clerk in Sargans, from 1890 to 1897 as a public prosecutor and from 1897 to 1924 as a canton judge in the canton of St. Gallen , where he was president from 1900.

Politically, Johannes Geel was on the Grand Council of the Canton of St. Gallen from 1891 to 1919 and represented his canton in the Council of States from 1896 to 1931 . In 1915 he was President of the Council of States . During his political tenure, he mainly focused on legal issues relating to the electricity industry and was also head of the Federal Commission for Electrical Systems for several years .
