President of the Council of States
The President of the Swiss Council of States is the chairman of the Council of States .
Every year at the beginning of the winter session, the Council of States elects a president and a first and second vice-president for a year. These lead the negotiations, represent the council externally and monitor compliance with the regulations and the order in the meetings. The vice-presidents take over the tasks of the president if these are prevented.
The President of the Council of States heads the office of the Council of States, which specifies the agenda for the session business. The tasks of the Presidium of the Council of States are laid down in the regulations of the Council of States. The United Federal Assembly is chaired by the President of the Council of States when the President of the National Council is unable to attend.
