Hans Stöckli (born April 12, 1952 in Wattenwil ; entitled to live there ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Stöckli studied law and journalism in Bern and Neuchâtel / Neuchâtel . In 1978 he obtained the Bern advocate patent . He initially worked in his own law firm and was President of the Biel Court from 1981 to 1990 and, most recently, Executive Court President and suppleant at the Bernese Higher Court.

In August 1979 he was elected to the city ​​council (legislature) of Biel , which he presided over in 1981. From January 1985 he was a part-time member of the Biel municipal council (executive). From 1990 to 2010 he was city ​​president and finance director of Biel. From May 2002 to September 2004 Stöckli was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern .

On September 20, 2004, Stöckli replaced Rudolf Strahm in the National Council and was confirmed in 2007 and 2011 . In the second ballot on November 20, 2011, he was elected to the Council of States , and Alexander Tschäppät succeeded him in the National Council . In 2015 and 2019 , Stöckli was re-elected to the Council of States for another four years in the second ballot . On December 2, 2019, Stöckli was elected President of the Council of States for the 2019/20 term of office with 39 out of 41 votes .

Stöckli is married and has three children.
