Alec von Graffenried (* 16th August 1962 in Chur ; heimatberechtigt in Bern ) is a Swiss politician ( Green or GFL Bern ) and since 2017 Berne mayor .

Life

Von Graffenried grew up in Bern. From 1982 he studied law at the University of Bern . After completing his studies, he worked as an advocate . From 2000 to 2007 he was the governor of the district of Bern . From 2007 to 2016 he was director of Losinger Marazzi AG. From 2010 to 2017 he was President of Bern Tourism. Currently (as of 2019) he is President of the Bern Section of the New European Movement Switzerland and President of the Bern Section of NHG Rencontres Suisses as well as a member of numerous associations.

Von Graffenried is a second married man, has four children and lives in Bern.

politics

Von Graffenried was elected to the National Council for the first time in the 2007 National Council elections and was re-elected in the 2011 National Council elections. In the National Council, he was a member of the Legal Affairs Commission , which he also chaired in 2014 and 2015. There he campaigned for the strengthening of parenting relationships (joint parental custody of both parents as a rule) and for a new maintenance law. He also called for binding guidelines for corporate responsibility in international relations. This work resulted in the corporate responsibility initiative, of which he is a member of the initiative committee. He also called for the introduction of general compulsory service. Other focal points of his work were communication and digitization (digital sustainability) as well as European, energy and transport policy.  

Von Graffenried was elected to the city of Bern's government (municipal council) with the highest voting result of all candidates in November 2016 and won the runoff election for city president against Ursula Wyss as Alexander Tschäppät's successor in January 2017 .
