Friedrich Ludwig Effinger (born August 29, 1795, presumably in Bern , † March 17, 1867 in Bern, resident in Bern) was a Swiss politician .

Life

After studying law at the University of Bern , the University of Göttingen and the University of Berlin , he joined the Bernese civil service in 1820, was a member of the Grand Council from 1824 to 1831 , first secret council clerk from 1825 to 1829, and in 1829 senior bailiff in Burgdorf . After regeneration , he decided not to be re-elected to the Grand Council in 1831 and turned to urban politics in Bern. He became a member of the Grand City Council ( legislature ), in 1832 Vice-President of the municipality and in 1833 President of the Finance Commission of the one founded that yearCivic Community of Bern . From 1849 to 1863 he served as Bernese mayor, so he held an office that corresponds to that of mayor and since 1871 has been known as “mayor”.

Under Effinger, the Christoffelturm was demolished and the west wing of the Federal Palace and the previous building of the station were built. From 1850 to 1858 Effinger was again a member of the Grand Council.

Friedrich Ludwig Effinger inherited the Ryhiner Collection from his mother Rosina Elisabeth, née von Ryhiner , which he then bequeathed to the City and University Library of Bern .
