Werner Bircher

Werner Bircher (born July 30, 1928 in Bern ; † March 10, 2017 ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

Bircher was an electrical engineer at the HTL and vice director of Chr. Gfeller AG in Bümpliz . From 1965 he was a member of the Bern City Council , which he presided over in 1973. In 1975 he became a member of the City Council of Bern and took over the financial management. From 1979 to 1992 he was mayor. During his term of office, the youth unrest of the eighties fell , including the occupation of the former riding school in 1981, its closure in 1982 and its re-occupation in 1987 as well as the construction of the tent and wagon village Zaffaraya in 1985 and its evacuation in 1987.
