Reynold Tschäppät (born September 3, 1917 in Malleray , † July 3, 1979 in Bern ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Reynold Tschäppät studied and obtained his doctorate (Dr. iur.) At the University of Bern and from 1943 worked as an advocate and employee at the court in Moutier. From 1944 Tschäppät was an employee (adjunct), later under Heinrich Rothmund Vice Director of the refugee affairs department of the FDJP .

In 1948 the Social Democrat was elected to the Bern City Council and two years later to the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern . In 1963 he gave up this mandate because he was elected to the National Council, to which he belonged until his death.

In 1966, after an intensive and very balanced election campaign, he was elected mayor of Bern. The most popular success of his tenure is the roof over the ice rink, a prerequisite for Bern and Geneva to host the ice hockey world championship in 1971 . Other important successes are the Gaskessel youth center , the international military music festival, the zoning plan to maintain comfort and a new building code.

In 1979 Tschäppät decided to run for the Council of States , but fell ill shortly afterwards and died on July 3, 1979. He was buried in the Bremgarten cemetery in Bern . Tschäppät was born in 1946 with Lilly. Bürki had been married and had three sons with her: Reynold, Alexander (also became mayor of Bern) and Philipp.
