Ernst Bärtschi

Ernst Bärtschi (born July 29, 1882 in Trubschachen , † April 3, 1976 in Gerzensee , resident in Eggiwil and Bern ) was a Swiss politician .

Life

After attending the Hofwil teacher training college , he trained as a secondary school teacher at the University of Bern , where he also obtained a high school teacher diploma in 1909. During this time he was a member of the Halleriana Bernensis . In 1910 he was promoted to Dr. phil. doctorate and then worked as a teacher at the boys' secondary school and at the municipal grammar school, which at the time was located on Waisenhausplatz and was moved to the building of today's Kirchenfeld grammar school in 1926 . From 1916 to 1926 Bärtschi was rector of the secondary and commercial high school.

As a member of the Free Democratic Party , he was a member of the Bern City Council ( legislature ) from 1918 to 1926 , served as a municipal councilor from 1927 to 1951 (member of the executive ) and was city president from 1937 to 1951. He also represented the city of Bern in the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern from 1930 to 1947 and in the National Council from 1939 to 1951 .
