The Palstek - technical magazine for sailors (own spelling "palstek" or "PALSTEK") is a bimonthly German language magazine published by the Palstek GmbH publishing house in Hamburg. The target group are sailors and boat owners.

The magazine largely covers the usual topics of sailing magazines, but looks for its specific market segment among boat owners who are more technically interested. Other focal points are classic and gaff rigged sailing boats and yachts as well as articles on the history of sailing .

subjects

In the magazine section Technology for boat owners, there is space for topics that deal with the technical basics of yacht construction and ship equipment, as well as the maintenance and repair of boats and yachts.

Compared to other sailing magazines, the presentation of these topics is very detailed and many facts are illustrated with extensive technical drawings. In addition to practical experience on board, basic technological or engineering issues are also dealt with. Readers' inquiries about boat building , sails and rigging , electrics and electronics , engines and ship propulsion , which are answered by experts, take up a lot of space. This bowline focus is supplemented by self-help tips "from owner to owner".

Another fixed component of the bowline is the "gaff box", which is aimed particularly at owners and users of gaff rigged , i.e. more historical boat types, with technical aspects again in the foreground.

Like the market competitors, the Palstek presents sailing ships and their equipment in extensive tests. However, he emphatically dispenses with yacht types that are unaffordable for the average reader and focuses more on sports boats and cruising yachts that are produced for a wide audience. Older sailing boats and yachts, which are still of particular interest to buyers in the used boat market, are also regularly presented.

The articles in the topics of navigation and seamanship are mainly characterized by practical relevance, but often also include historical aspects. Travel reports and area descriptions often come from readers; Exceptionally exclusive areas or trips are not in the foreground. The magazine Blauwasser, published by the same publisher, is more geared towards the “blue water sailors” .

The rubrics that are common in other sailing magazines (e.g. boat market, sailing literature, classified ads) can also be found in the bowline , but here mostly have a specific profile due to the focus on a technically and historically interested sub-audience.
