Otto Steiger (politician, 1890)

Otto Steiger (* 1890 ; † February 14, 1958 ) was a Swiss politician ( Bernese farmers 'and citizens' party ).

Life

Steiger was the son of a brewer in Wabern . He studied law , made the advocacy patent and in 1917 became the police inspector of Bern. In 1920 he joined the Bern municipal council as a representative of the recently founded citizens' party . For 38 years he led the directorate for social welfare, which he expanded according to modern social aspects. From 1952 to 1958 he was finally mayor . He died unexpectedly of a heart attack while in office.
