Emil Erne

Emil Erne (born September 20, 1948 in Bern ) is a Swiss historian and archivist .

Live and act

Erne studied history and German at the Universities of Bern and Kiel and received his doctorate in Bern in 1986. His research focuses on Enlightenment societies , magazines in the 18th century and the history of the city of Bern since 1798.

From 1990 to 2011 he was the city ​​archivist responsible for the city ​​archive of Bern . He is also a board member of the foundation for cultural studies research in Engi GL and president of the editorial committee of the Bern journal for history and local history .

Erne has long been a member of the city of Bern's three-person “Street Designation Commission”. He caused the Bern municipal council to name eighteen streets around the Zentrum Paul Klee after the names of his paintings.
