The Zentrum Paul Klee (ZPK) in Bern , built according to plans by Renzo Piano , opened on June 20, 2005. Since August 2016 it has been led by the art historian Nina Zimmer as the successor to Peter Fischer. Since then, Zimmer has also been the director of the Kunstmuseum Bern .

history

The focus of the cultural institution founded by the surgeon Maurice Edmond Müller is the German painter Paul Klee (1879–1940), who spent a good half of his life in Bern. Of his almost 10,000 oeuvre, 40 percent, i.e. around 4,000 paintings , watercolors and drawings , as well as archives and biographical materials, were brought together in the Zentrum Paul Klee; This makes it the world's most important collection of Klee's works. His estate had previously been kept in the Kunstmuseum Bern .

The Zentrum Paul Klee is intended to be an international competence center for the research, communication and presentation of the person, life and work of Paul Klee and its reception. With reference to the diverse artistic activities of Paul Klee, the center is therefore not limited to the presentation of Klee's visual work, but is also a platform for music, theater, dance, literature and cross-disciplinary forms of artistic expression. A special feature is the Creaviva children's museum in the center.

An exhibition about the work of Paul Klee with the title Klee en Cobra. Het Begint as a child , was on view at the Cobra Museum ( Amstelveen , Netherlands) from January 2012 to April 2012 . The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Zentrum Paul Klee and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

A total of 4.2 km of steel girders were required for the construction of the Zentrum Paul Klee. The exhibition area is 1800 square meters.

This is where the Summer Academy Foundation operates at the Paul Klee Center .
