Cobra Museum voor Moderne Kunst in Amstelveen

The Cobra Museum (proper name: Cobra Museum voor Moderne Kunst ) in the Dutch city of Amstelveen (province of North Holland ) is a museum for modern art and includes a collection of Dutch artists and the international CoBrA movement. The initiative to build the museum came from the municipality of Amstelveen in cooperation with various large Dutch companies. The museum opened on November 8, 1995, with the opening date indicating the founding of the CoBrA movement on November 8 (1948). Since it was founded, the Cobra Museum has been a foundation that works as an independent organization and as an art company.

history

Cobra art, originated in Paris (1948–1951), caused a "revolution" in modern art in the Netherlands . The Cobra Museum would like to be an expertise center in the spirit of CoBrA, where experiment, expressionism and surrealism are expressed. The Cobra art in the museum stands for creative freedom, vitality and social commitment . The building of the museum was designed by the Dutch architect Wim Quist (* 1930) and covers approximately 2500 m². The garden in the museum was laid out by the Cobra artist Shinkichi Tajiri .

Cobra Museum

There is a museum shop with, among other things, books on art and graphics, a museum café, a children's studio and a photo studio . The museum also provides rooms for initiatives that want to organize art courses. The library can only be visited after prior registration. From 2013 workshops for adults will also be organized. Workshops have already been held for children between the ages of seven and ten during the school holidays.

Exhibitions

In 2002 an exhibition was organized about the Dutch artist and musician Herman Brood .

An exhibition was held from July 2, 2012 to October 10, 2012 under the name of Cobra Cities. De Kunstenaars en de Metropol ("Cobra cities. The artists and the metropolis"). The Cobra Art is connected to the cities Co hagen, Br üssel, A msterdam and New York City and Paris.

An extensive exhibition in the Sakip Sabanci Museum in Istanbul under the title Cobra - 1000 Days of Free Art took place with the participation of the Cobra Museum from June 2012 to September 2012. The “official cultural program” was held to celebrate 400 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Turkey.

An exhibition about the work of Paul Klee with the title Klee en Cobra. Het Begint als Kind was on view at the Cobra Museum from January 2012 to April 2012. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art .

Her works are constantly represented in the museum: Pierre Alechinsky , Karel Appel , Eugène Brands , Constant , Corneille , Christian Dotremont , Henry Heerup , Robert Jacobsen , Asger Jorn , Lucebert , Jan Nieuwenhuys , Carl-Henning Pedersen , Reinhoud , Anton Rooskens , Shinkichi Tajiri and Theo Wolvecamp .

Since it was founded in 1995 until the end of 2012, the Cobra Museum had around 100,000 visitors.
