Willemijn Stokvis
Willemijn Stokvis (born February 4, 1937 in Vianen , Utrecht province ) is a Dutch art historian who is considered an expert in the field of artist group CoBrA .
life and work
Willemijn Stokvis studied art history at the University of Utrecht . She received her doctorate in 1973 on the subject of CoBrA . "Cobra. Geschiedenis, voorspel en betekenis van een moving in de art van na de tweede wereldoorlog / Cobra. An international movement in art after the Second World War ”was the title of her dissertation , which was originally published by De Bezige Bij in Amsterdam. Since the first edition in 1974, several new editions and translations have appeared. In 1975 Willemijn Stokvis was awarded the Karel van Mander Prize for this standard work. It is not only based on art historical sources, but also on interviews with CoBrA artists and contemporary witnesses.
Stokvis worked at the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum . As an art critic, she wrote for the weekly magazine Vrij Nederland, among others . From 1979 to 1999 she was a professor at the University of Leiden .
