history

The Swiss Theater Collection goes back to the Swiss Society for Theater Culture founded in 1927 , the initiators of which began to collect printed matter and objects from the theater sector. From 1943 to 1979 these holdings were deposited in the Swiss National Library . In 1978 the Swiss Theater Collection Foundation was established by the Swiss Society for Theater Culture together with the federal government, the canton and the city of Bern. The library and archive were opened in 1985, and the museum was added in 1987.

In 2017 the Swiss Theater Collection was merged with the Swiss Dance Archive to form the Swiss Archive of the Performing Arts , or SAPA for short ( Swiss Archive of the Performing Arts ). The Swiss Theater Collection Foundation was dissolved after the foundation's assets were transferred to the SAPA Foundation, Swiss Archive of the Performing Arts , which emerged from the Swiss Dance Archive Foundation .
