The Division 1 2000/01 was the 63rd season of the highest French football league. The season began on July 28, 2000 with the opening game Olympique Marseille against ES Troyes AC (3: 1) and ended on May 19, 2001.

As a climber came Lille , Guingamp and Toulouse FC from Division 2 to do so. The season as champions ended the FC Nantes and thus became the successor to AS Monaco . Qualification for the UEFA Champions League was made by Nantes, Olympique Lyon and OSC Lille (qualification). Girondins Bordeaux and CS Sedan qualified for the UEFA Cup . In the UEFA Intertoto Cup the following year played Stade Rennes , ES Troyes AC, SC Bastia and Paris Saint-Germain . AS Saint-Etienne , FC Toulouse and RC Strasbourg had to relegate to Division 2 .
