The Division 1 1947/48 was the tenth staging of the professional French football league. Champions were Olympique Marseille , which won its second title after 1937 .
The first game day was August 24, 1947, the last day was May 30, 1948. There was a “winter break” between December 28 and January 11.
societies
The clubs that had not finished the previous season worse than in 16th place, as well as the two direct promoters from the second division, were eligible to participate . Thus, the following teams played for the championship title this season:
- two clubs from the far north (defending champions CO Roubaix-Tourcoing , OSC Lille ),
- four from Paris or Champagne ( Racing Paris , Stade Français Paris Red Star Olympique , Stade Reims ),
- one from Brittany ( Stade Rennes UC ),
- four from the northeast ( FC Metz , FC Nancy , Racing Strasbourg , newly promoted FC Sochaux ),
- one from the southwest ( Toulouse FC ),
- six from the southeast ( AS Saint-Étienne , newly promoted Olympique Alès , SO Montpellier , FC Sète , Olympique Marseille , AS Cannes-Grasse ).
Season course
The three teams that had set themselves apart from the rest of the competitors in the final table also determined the course of the season and took turns at the top. Lille had the best start with six wins in a row; then the northern French lost significantly in Marseille. In addition, there should be constant quarrels within the players' squad - the newspapers wrote of a "rift between Poland and non-Poles" - as well as constant quarrel between players and the " Ludwig XIX. “Designated President Louis Henno . So Reims was able to overtake, won the symbolic autumn championship title thanks to its almost insurmountable defense (only eleven goals against in the first half of the season) and was still just ahead at the end of March. Then the red and whites welcomed the new darling of the Parisian crowd, Stade Français, who, thanks to a few aces such as Domingo , Hon , Grillon and Ben Barek, won there 3-0 and thereby helped Lille back to the top. But the northern French seemed to focus on the cup competition in the episode , which they wanted to win for the third time in a row - which they finally succeeded; a week before the final against neighbor Lens they let themselves be downright “slaughtered” in the league of Saint-Étienne (3: 8). This cleared the way to the title for the “cosmopolitan troupe” from Marseille “with their brilliant, spectacular style of play”: Olympique, who had only made a small slip in front of their own audience (draw against Rennes), ran over their last four guests with a total of 24: 4 goals and thus kept Lille and Reims just at a distance.
In the relegation battle, the football-interested public witnessed the motive of "size and decline" at the " Audoniens " of the Red Star Olympique, while the promoted from the southern French mining town of Alès at least resisted the immediate return to Division 2 without him until the end of the season to be able to prevent. These two teams were replaced the following season by the second division clubs OGC Nizza and SR Colmar - although Red Star still got a number of its players through a loophole: its professional division merged with Stade Français in the summer of 1948 and remained under the name Stade Français-Red Star continue on D1.
