The Division 2 1947-48 was the ninth staging of the second highest French football league . Second division champions were the OGC Nice .
societies
Eligible to participate were the 16 clubs that had not been promoted to the first division after the previous season or had given up their professional status - voluntarily or by force. There were also four first division relegated teams. There were no newcomers who had assumed professional status this season.
Thus, the following 20 teams were represented this season:
- four teams from the far north ( US Valenciennes-Anzin , SA Douai , AC Amiens , relegated Racing Lens ),
- two from Paris and Champagne ( CA Paris , AS Troyes-Savinienne ).
- two from the northeast ( SR Colmar , Racing Club Franc-Comtois Besançon ),
- seven from the west ( US Le Mans , FC Nantes , SCO Angers , AS des Charentes Angoulême , plus the relegated Le Havre AC , FC Rouen and Girondins AS du Port Bordeaux ),
- five from the southeast ( Lyon Olympique Universitaire , AS Béziers , Olympique Nîmes , AS Avignon , OGC Nice ).
Before the Second World War, there was only a direct promotion and relegation depending on the sporting result between the first and second professional division; thereafter a relegation to the third division had been introduced. In addition, a second division could be relegated if he gave up his license or if it was revoked. Previous amateur teams, on the other hand, could only continue to move up to Division 2 for the following season if they received approval from the responsible association FFF to assume professional status.
Season course
Each team played a return match against each group opponent, once in front of their own audience and once away. The two-point rule applied ; in the event of a tie, the goal difference was decisive for the placement. In France, when specifying the point ratio, only the number of plus points is given; here this is done in the notation used in Germany at the time of the 2-point rule.
As in the previous year of FC Sochaux , one team dominated the league season this time: OGC Nice finished first and had by far the most goals of all 22 clubs and had to accept the fewest goals. Well behind, there was a three-way battle for second place, in which the Alsatians from Colmar had just managed to prevail against the two Norman Division 1 relegated Le Havre and Rouen.
In the lower region of the table, six teams from 15th place resisted having to take over the "red lantern", which is synonymous with relegation; In the end, Avignon was left behind in this dispute, while the CA Paris, one of the founding members of professionalism in 1932 , escaped this lot again. After the end of the season, Angoulême voluntarily gave up his professional status.
In the 380 encounters of Division 2 1,362 hits were scored; this corresponds to an average of 3.6 goals per game. Henri Arnaudeau from Bordeaux won the top scorer's crown with 28 goals.
For the following season , only Olympique Alès came from the first division , because the other designated relegated Red Star merged with Stade Français and so actually received the class affiliation. In addition, the FFF granted AS Monaco and SC Toulon a professional license again. The 1. FC Saarbrücken from the Saarland was also admitted to the second division, was allowed in as FC Sarrebruck but only play out of competition.
