Ligue 1 2012/13

The Ligue 2 2012/13 was the 74th staging of the second highest French football league . The season began on July 27, 2012 and ended on May 24, 2013. AS Monaco became second division champions .

SM Caen , FCO Dijon and AJ Auxerre were relegated from Ligue 1 , while Olympique Nîmes , Chamois Niort and Gazélec FCO Ajaccio rose from the third division . In terms of names, the second division was also strongly occupied this season: 18 of the 20 teams have already belonged to the top division in the past ; only for Ajaccio and Clermont a promotion at the end of this season would have been a first.

According to their final balance sheet as of June 30, 2012, a number of second division clubs were heavily indebted, at the top Racing Lens (17.7 million euros), relegated AJ Auxerre (16.4 million), FC Nantes (12.1 million) ) and Le Mans FC (7.5 million). In the course of the 2012/13 season, the CS Sedan also got into financial difficulties of around 6 million euros.

* Maximum number of spectators for Ligue 2 games according to the League Association

(a)The GFCA played its first five home games because of repair and renovation work in the Stade François-Coty of local rivals AC Ajaccio , its last three because of a penalty in the Stade Jean Laville in Gueugnon .
(b)At the beginning of the season, the club closed the Trannin tribune and the upper tier of the Delacourt tribune itself for cost reasons , reducing the actual maximum capacity of the stadium by around 40%.

Placement criteria: 1st points - 2nd goal difference - 3rd goals scored

  • Promotion to Ligue 1 2013/14
  • Relegation to the National (D3)
  • (A) Relegated from Ligue 1 2011/12
    (N) Newcomers
    (c) On April 11, 2013, the Association Disciplinary Commission punished Ajaccio for rioting at the game against Monaco with a suspension for five competitive games - that is, for the rest of the season - and with three points deducted.

The first decision about promotion and relegation was made after the 35th matchday: Ajaccio had to return to the third division after only one season. After the 36th matchday, Sedan's relegation and Monaco's promotion were mathematically determined, after the 37th with Nantes and Guingamp the two other future first division clubs, so that only the question of the third relegated team was only decided on the last matchday. Laval kept the better end to Le Mans.
