The Division 2 1974-75 was the 36th staging of the second highest French football league . It has been an open championship with professionals and amateurs since 1970. AS Nancy became second division champions .

societies

The 26 clubs that had not been promoted to the first division or relegated to the third division (national) after the previous season were eligible to participate ; there were also three first division relegated and six promoted from the national . These 35 participants played in two groups, mainly divided according to regional criteria (one with teams from the north and west and one with teams from the south and east). Thus, the following teams played for the division 2 championship this season :

The respective group winners and the winner of the play-offs between the two runners- up were eligible for promotion . There was no relegation between the worst-placed first division clubs who were not directly relegated and the best second division clubs who were not directly eligible for promotion this time either.

Season course

Each team played a return match against each group opponent, once in front of their own audience and once away. The two-point rule applied ; In the event of a tie, the goal difference and, if this should also be the same - as this year between Tours and Chaumont - the higher number of hits made the decisive factors for the placement. Each team received an additional bonus point regardless of the outcome of the game for each game in which they had scored at least three goals, as well as for each victory with two or more goals difference; this should encourage attacking football. In France, when specifying the point ratio, only the number of plus points is given; here this is done in the notation used in Germany at the time of the 2-point rule.

Unlike in the previous year, this time the bonus rule also had an effect on the relevant seasonal decisions. If the association had taken into account the points achieved in the games after the 2-1-0 classification, i.e. without bonus points, the two direct promoters would not have been Valenciennes and Nancy, but Rouen and Toulon. As it was, the Normans had to go to the play-offs - in which they then failed - and the southern French didn't even get this “last chance” due to their worse goal difference against Avignon. In the question of relegation, however, the bonus did not have a decisive effect, although Mulhouse was lucky that only two instead of the usual three teams from Group B had to enter the third division. Of the six newcomers to Division 2 , five held the class - only Quimper proved to be too weak early on to be able to keep up - while the first division relegated from Paris only narrowly escaped the "march" from the first to the third division.

In the 578 encounters, 1,554 hits were scored; this corresponds to an average of almost 2.7 goals per game and thus - despite the attempt to reward an offensive style of play - a slight decrease compared to the previous season. The most successful goal scorers in Group A were Georg Tripp from Laval with 25 and in Group B Joaquim Martínez from the champions Nancy with 26 goals; The latter won the league top scorer's crown. In Martínez 'team there was another very dangerous player in the 19-year-old talent Michel Platini .

For the following season , SCO Angers , Stade Rennes and Red Star FC were relegated from Division 1 . Six teams rose directly from the third-highest league, of which Stade Malherbe Caen , Gazélec FC Ajaccio and the Jeune Garde Athlétique Nevers already had second division experience, while the Union Sportive Municipale Malakoff , Stade Olympique Cholet and Sports Réunis Saint-Dié were absolute newcomers to this Level were.

    Determination of the master

The two group winners met each other on a return game to determine this year's division 2 champion. AS Nancy first reached 0-0 at the US Valenciennes-Anzin, won the second leg in front of their own audience 4-0 and thus secured the championship title.

    Relegation

In the same mode, the two runners-up fought for another promotion place in the top division. Olympique Avignon had a 3-0 win in the first leg and then lost to FC Rouen only 2-0. This was the first time in the history of the club that the southern French were promoted to the top division, after having narrowly failed to do so in recent years.
