^ Division 1 1981/82 |
The Division 2 1981/82 was the 43rd staging of the second highest French football league . It has been an open championship with professionals and amateurs since 1970. The game was played from August 1, 1981 to May 8, 1982; There was a particularly long winter break from mid-December to the end of January.
Second division champions were Toulouse FC .
societies
The 28 clubs that had not been promoted to the first division or relegated to the third division (national) after the previous season were eligible to participate ; there were also two first division relegated and six promoted from the national . These 36 participants played in two groups, divided mainly according to regional criteria (one with teams from the north and west and one with teams from the south and east). Thus, the following teams played for the division 2 championship this season : Promoted relegators
- Group A: Paris FC , newly promoted FC Fontainebleau-Bagneaux , US Orléans , AAJ Blois , SR Saint-Dié , FC Gueugnon , promoted CS Cuiseaux-Louhans , FC AS Grenoble , CS Thonon , AS Libourne , Toulouse FC , AS Béziers , relegated Olympique Nîmes , FC Martigues , Olympique Marseille , promoted SC Toulon , AS Cannes , Gazélec FC Ajaccio
- Group B: US Dunkerque , promoted Calais RUFC , US Nœux-les-Mines , SC Abbeville , EDS Montluçon , promoted Stade Français 92 Paris , Stade Reims , promoted FC Mulhouse , Racing Club Franc-Comtois Besançon , Le Havre AC , FC Rouen , Stade Rennes , EA Guingamp , Stade Quimper , relegated SCO Angers , LB Châteauroux , FC Limoges , AS Angoulême
Only the first in the group were eligible for direct promotion. In addition, there was a relegation between the worst-placed first division team, who was not directly relegated , and the best second division team, who was not directly eligible for promotion.
Season course
Each team played a return match against each group opponent, once in front of their own audience and once away. The two-point rule applied ; in the event of a tie, the goal difference was decisive for the placement. In France, when specifying the point ratio, only the number of plus points is given; here this is done in the notation used in Germany at the time of the 2-point rule.
In both groups there was an exciting argument about the places essential for direct promotion and relegation participation until the last match day. In Group A, it was only the better goal difference in favor of Toulouse against Thonon that decided on first and second place, while the top three teams in Group B were only one point apart. At the end of the season, the newcomer Mulhouse managed to "march through" from the third to the first division. Two other third division teams from last year (Toulon and Cuiseaux-Louhans) also performed in the upper quarter of the table and were therefore very respectable; for this, Calais had to return to the national as the only promoted team , whereby only the goal difference was decisive. Paris FC left Division 2 after its dissolution and subsequent re-establishment. It was also noteworthy that Grenoble set the record of undecided outcomes, which Angoulême had only set two years earlier with 18 draws in 34 games.
1,520 hits were scored in the 612 encounters; this corresponds to an average of almost 2.5 goals per game. The most successful goal scorers in Group A were Marc Pascal (Marseille) with 18 and in Group B two players ( Žarko Olarević from Le Havre and Issicka Ouattara from Mulhouse) with 25 goals each; the latter two thus shared the league top scorer crown. For the following season three relegated from Division 1 were added: US Valenciennes-Anzin , OGC Nice and Montpellier La Paillade SC . Seven teams rose from the third highest league, namely Racing Paris , AS Red Star Saint-Ouen , ES Viry-Châtillon , AS Corbeil-Essonnes , CS Blénod , Entente Montceau-les-Mines and Olympique Alès .

Determination of the master
The two group winners met each other on a return game to determine this year's division 2 champion. Rouen won his home game 3-2 and lost in Toulouse 1-2. In view of the equality of goals scored, the so-called "away goals rule", through which Toulouse became second division champions, took effect for the first time.

Relegation
According to the same mode, the two runners-up fought to see which of them against the first division 18. US Valenciennes-Anzin was allowed to play for another promotion place in the top division. Mulhouse won both games against Thonon (3-0 and 2-1). Then the Alsatians defeated the USVA 5-2 in front of their own audience, achieved a 1-1 draw in the second leg and thus rose as the third second division.
