FC Montceau
The Football Club Montceau Bourgogne or FC Montceau for short is a French football club from Montceau-les-Mines . His club colors are red and white; the league team plays in the Stade des Alouettes , which has a capacity of 6,000 seats.
history
The club was founded in 1948 when two local clubs, Sporting Club Montceau and Union Sportive from the neighboring community of Blanzy , merged to form the US Blanzy-Montceau . The newcomer from the Burgundian mining region rose to the highest amateur league (CFA) as early as 1949 and in 1950/51 also reached the national main round in the cup competition for the first time . The mineurs ("miners") maintained this level until the beginning of the 1960s , then - parallel to the loss of importance of regional mining - its sporting decline also took place. In 1967 the name was changed to Entente Montceau-les-Mines, and just over a decade later, Montceau's footballers from the regional d'Honneur division returned to the national field of vision. Between 1982 and 1990 they played for seven seasons - from 1984 under the name FC Montceau - even in professional division 2 . In the 1980s, the rivalry with two other clubs from the region developed: disputes between the mineurs with the CS Cuiseaux-Louhans and in particular against FC Gueugnon (as forgerons , German: "the forge", only 25 km away from Montceau) not only on the field, but also repeatedly between the supporters of the clubs in the stands. During this time, the management of FC Montceau repeatedly complained about the inadequate financial support from the community; However, this itself had to struggle with the effects of the ongoing economic structural change : In 1992 the last local underground mine closed its doors. As early as 1991, the club was transferred from the third to the fourth division due to its overindebtedness , a year later, this time for sporting reasons, he went down a class and then even in Burgundy's Division d'Honneur. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the FC has been back in the national amateur league, i.e. at the fifth or fourth highest league level.
League affiliation and achievements
The club had professional status from 1984 to 1989; he has never belonged to the top French league . Currently (2013/14) he plays in the highest amateur league (CFA) and is therefore fourth class. In the national cup (Coupe de France) he was in the main round in 16 seasons so far, most recently in 2011/12 . The fourth-rate club at the time achieved its greatest success when it reached the semi-finals in 2006/07 , when on the way there it was able to eliminate two top division clubs with Girondins Bordeaux and Racing Lens before losing to FC Sochaux - and only after extra time. The team played these three games in the "hostile" Stade Jean Laville von Gueugnon ; the semi-finals were also broadcast on a big screen in the central square of Montceau-les-Mines.
