Blanzy is a French municipality with 6146 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Autun and the canton of Blanzy . The inhabitants are called Blanzynois (es) .
geography
Blanzy is on the Bourbince River and the Canal du Center . The tributary Sorme , which flows in here, is dammed up to form Lake Étang de la Sorme , which is partly on the municipal area. Blanzy is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Les Bizots in the north, Saint-Eusèbe and Marigny in the east, Gourdon in the south, Saint-Vallier in the south-west, Montceau-les-Mines and Saint-Berain-sous-Sanvignes in the west and Charmoy in the north-west.
The national route 70 and the Le Coteau-Montchanin railway run through the municipality .
history
The site is of archaeological and anthropological interest as a place where Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons were found .
As a Gallo-Roman settlement, the place bears the name Blandiacus . In the eighth century the Arabs are said to have penetrated this far.
