Essertenne is a French municipality with 475 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté (before 2016: Burgundy ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Autun and the canton of Chagny (until 2015: canton of Couches ).

Essertenne is about nine kilometers east of Le Creusot . The river Dheune and the Canal du Center limit the community to the southeast. Neighboring communities of Essertenne are Saint-Pierre-de-Varennes in the north and north-west, Saint-Jean-de-Trézy in the north-east, Perreuil in the east, Morey in the south-east, Saint-Julien-sur-Dheune in the south and Le Breuil in the west and south-west .
