Charbonnat is located about 21 kilometers southwest of the city center of Autun am Arroux . Charbonnat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Thil-sur-Arroux in the north, Saint-Nizier-sur-Arroux in the northeast, Dettey in the east, La Boulaye in the south and southeast, Montmort in the south, Cuzy in the southwest and Luzy in the west.
