Montchanin is a French municipality with 5030 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Autun and the Canton of Blanzy .

geography

Montchanin is located on the Canal du Center and the Bourbince River , embedded in a lake landscape. Montchanin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Torcy in the north and north-west, Écuisses in the north-east, Saint-Laurent-d'Andenay in the east and Saint-Eusèbe in the south and south-west.

The national routes 70 and 80 run through the municipality . Montchanin is an important railroad crossing point.

history

Montchanin was formed in 1854 from parts of the neighboring municipality of Saint-Éusebe and was known as Montchanin-lès-Mines until 1958 .
