Saint-Vallier lies on the Bourbince River and is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Montceau-les-Mines in the north, Blanzy in the northeast, Gourdon and Saint-Romain-sous-Gourdon in the east, Pouilloux in the south, Ciry-le-Noble in the southwest and Sanvignes -les-mines to the west.

history

The Roman general Valerius is said to have moved through this area. With his conversion to Christianity and his canonization, the name was named in his honor Saint-Vallier.
