La Celle-en-Morvan is a French municipality with 481 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Autun and the Canton of Autun-1 .
geography
The community is located in the Morvan massif, on the southeastern edge of the Morvan Regional Nature Park , around 12 kilometers northwest of Autun . Neighboring municipalities to La Celle-en-Morvan are:
- La Petite-Verrière in the north,
- Sommant in the northeast,
- Tavernay to the east
- Monthelon in the southeast,
- La Grande-Verrière in the southwest and
- Roussillon-en-Morvan to the west.
The Chaloire river reaches the municipality from the north . After the confluence of its right tributary Canche in the area of the municipality's capital, it changes its name and, as Celle, strives towards its confluence with the Arroux . The departmental road D978, which runs from Autun via Château-Chinon to Nevers , opens up the community in terms of transport.
history
The foundation of the community goes back to the legend of St. Medericus , who was abbot in a monastery near Autun in the 7th century and who retired to a hermitage (La Celle = cell) near today's town .
