Clement Turpin

Clément Turpin (born May 16, 1982 in Oullins ) is a French football referee . He lives in Montceau-les-Mines and has been a member of the local FC Montceau since his youth .

Career

Turpin, who tried his hand at different sports as a teenager, has never played football very successfully himself. He came to referee at an early age, showed great talent and was intensively promoted by the Burgundian regional association of the Fédération Française de Football (FFF), so that he rose one class higher almost every year. Used in the third division since 2006 , he has been in charge of the professional league since 2007, initially in Ligue 2 and from the second match day of the 2008/09 season in Ligue 1 ; his first encounter in the top division was the clash between SM Caen and Valenciennes FC . At the end of 2009, the association announced Clément Turpin to FIFA as one of the French referees for international matches; in the 2010/11 season he whistled his first two games in the UEFA Europa League , and in 2010 he had already played in qualifying matches for the U-17 European Championship.

By the end of the 2010/11 season, he had led a total of 46 first, 33 second and 26 third division games as well as six matches in the league and eight in the national cup in France . In the latter competition, Clément Turpin was entrusted with the management of the final between Lille OSC and Paris Saint-Germain in May 2011, two days before his 29th birthday , according to the responsible association chairman Marc Batta in recognition of his seasonal achievements. Here, too, Turpin was the youngest referee and the first under-thirty to ever direct a final in the long history of the competition. In 2016 , Turpin led a French cup final for the second time, this time in which Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Marseille met .

In 2010, 2011, 2014 and again in 2015 he was named "French Referee of the Year" by France Football . When " Corsica - Derby " beginning in March 2013 Turpin turned in the last ten minutes of the game five players from the square (two of the host SC Bastia and three from AC Ajaccio ) - A new French worst record in the 21st century. In 2013 and 2014, the League Association commissioned him to manage the so-called “ Classique ” between Olympique Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain. In 2014 he directed the game for the Trophée des Champions in Beijing .

Turpin, who also benefited from a consistent rejuvenation policy by the Referees Committee (DTA) of the FFF, is considered to be very "willing to make decisions and punish"; in the 2012/13 season , he distributed a total of 84 yellow and 15 red cards in 21 missions. In January 2015 he moved up to the top category ("Elite") of the FIFA list for Stéphane Lannoy , who was retiring for reasons of age ; The association assigned him the Italian ex-referee Roberto Rosetti as a personal coach . In June of this year he officiated at the finals of the U-21 European Championship in the Czech Republic . At the 2016 European Men's Championship in France, he is the only French and at the same time the youngest game master. Until just before it began, he had whistled eight games in the Champions League and twenty in the Europa League. He also remained true to his line at the international level and issued a total of 29 warnings in six appearances in the 2015/16 European championship competition .

At the EM Turpin was initially used in the group game between Austria and Hungary ; in this neighboring duel he showed three yellow cards, one of which was the yellow-red for Aleksandar Dragović . UEFA then put him and his team in the crucial third Group C match between Germany and Northern Ireland , in which he got by without personal penalties. After he was not taken into account in the round of 16 and quarter-finals, the tournament was ended prematurely for him because the French team was among the last four teams.

He also served as a referee at the soccer tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . Turpin was also nominated for the 2018 World Cup . In Russia, where he was also repeatedly used as a video assistant , he directed the group matches between Uruguay and Saudi Arabia as well as Switzerland and Costa Rica . Since the French national team stayed in the tournament until the end, FIFA no longer considered him for the knockout matches.
